Bitcoin ETFs post their biggest outflow since June as ether bets get flushed
Funds and leveraged traders both sold into the dip. Bitcoin bounced on the Iran news.
What happened
US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $484.9 million on Wednesday, the largest outflow since June 25. That erased the $321.6 million of inflows from the first four sessions of October and left the funds with about $163 million of net outflows for the month. Ether ETFs lost $160.9 million, their seventh straight outflow session. Bitcoin touched $81,000 on Thursday, its lowest since Sept. 21, then rebounded to $82,000 after Trump ruled out an Iran strike. About $356 million of ETH positions were liquidated in 24 hours.

Why it matters
ETF flows show how institutions and advisers lean. A single large outflow day proves little. A run of them would show a shift. Liquidations show leverage being forced out, which often marks a short-term low in positioning but can also feed further selling.
What history shows
October has been Bitcoin's strongest month by average, at +16.63% across 12 years since 2014, with gains in 75% of them. The seasonal pattern is rated weak, so treat it as context.
The last ten Octobers averaged +17.91%.
Seasonal backdrop
This October is running at -2.25% so far, well below the seasonal average. Bitcoin trades -34.53% from its all-time high and -33.79% over one year as of October 8, 2026.
